For over 30 years, the Kentucky Folklife Program has continued with its mission to document, present, and conserve the diverse culture and heritage of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Based at Western Kentucky University, our mission dovetails well with the university’s desire to be leading regional university dedicated to student-centered applied research. As part of the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology, the KFP is a fertile teaching ground for our nationally-known Folk Studies graduate program where students are able to apply hands-on public folklore skills to any number of projects that validate and celebrate Kentucky traditions and heritage.
The WKU Research Foundation recently wrote this overview that further sheds light on the KFP’s community-centered work and how on-campus partners like the Kentucky Museum partner with us to deliver to the public deeper insight into the diverse culture around us. You can read about it here
